Get to Know Me

“I hope that you will be able to look back on your birth with fond memories, and believe in the amazing power and ability of your body. ”
Blessings! Maddie

My name is Maddie Ackerman, proud owner of Big Belly Doula Care. I am excited to be able to provide assistance to families in attaining a positive and empowering birth experience.

I became inspired to assist and nurture others in the birth process in 2010 after many interactions with friends who were becoming teen moms. During my late high school years I came to realize how uninformed young women in our culture are about the options they have in pregnancy and the birth process. It can be extremely overwhelming becoming a new parent and even more so for young women who may not have had prior experience or knowledge about the birthing process and life with a new baby. My goal is to inform and encourage you in continuing to ask questions and never ‘settle’ during your birth experience. As I continue in school at Seattle Pacific University for Nursing I am passionate about helping new moms feel confident in their birth experience.

I am currently working on certification with DONA and PALS. I completed my doula training at the Simkin center at Bastyr University, in Kenmore, WA. I have attended ten hospital births (both vaginal and cesarean), and have experience with young parents, first time parents and single mothers. I also have CNA, CPR, First Aid and HIV/Aids certifications.

I would love to help make this time easier for you.
