dou·what?

do͞olə/

noun

noun: doula; plural noun: doulas

You may have heard the word doula floating around our modern/hipster Seattle world, or maybe your wife/partner just told you that you are hiring one. So what is a doula, and what do they do?

A doula, as defined by Oxford Dictionary (American English), is a woman who is trained to assist another woman during childbirth and who provides support to the mother immediately after the baby is born. Originally the word “doula” comes from the Greek meaning “a woman who serves”.
